WordPress multisite domain mapping at godaddy without a dedicated IP

Hi there,

first of all sorry for the huuuuuuge tittle but those are the keywords that made me loose a few hours and I’d like to help.

You all (should) know that wordpress can become multi-site with folders (mywebsite.com/newWebsite) or with subdomains (newWebsite.mywebsite.com). Back in the days I used WP Mu to do this but since WordPress version 3.something this is now fully integrated with wordpress. With the help of a cool plugin you can now Map any blog/site on a WordPressMU or WordPress 3.0 network to an external domain.

Basic info:

  • I have a shared hosting @ godaddy
  • I didn’t want to pay the extra for the dedicated IP – more of a mini-challenge than a money thing.
  • I’m using this so that I can manage my own network of wordpress blogs (and not for other users)

He are the links that helped me to solve this problem:

This worked just fine for me and I hope it will help you out.

I tried the best I could going through the guides but nothing has worked out for me. Can there be a simpler step by step guide (with screen shots if possible) if this really works.

    Thank you

      Hi Lavish,

it works, I’m doing it in another installation of WordPress.

As far as I remember, in my case, I’ve mainly followed the step by step guides indicated in the links – most have screenshots. I do not think there are many shortcuts you can take in this situation. If you continue having problems let us know.

      Cheers,
      Miguel
